The "software" of the subconscious mind, including the emotions, self-esteem, happiness, friendship and love.
Its operations have the pursuit of happiness as the goal, with the ability to tolerate and defeat stress, which is the opposite of self-esteem.
The mammalian brain is about bonding, emotionally, and in Romantic Dynamics, we believe it to house two types of self-esteem, which are Well-being and Confidence.
Well-being is a nurturing, maternal kind of self esteem, which lets us feel nurtured and with enough resources, whether those are time, energy, money or friendship.
Confidence is a can-do, action-oriented kind of self-esteem, which lets us feel encouraged and motivated to take action, even in the face of risk, change or loss.
Emotional attraction also tends to help us define four types of temperament of personality, of which there are:
- Kings and Queens (experts of the world, with wisdom and opinions.)
- Warriors (fighters of the world.)
- Magicians (entertainers and visionaries of the world.)
- Lovers (poets and artists of the world.)
The notion that animals bond through breastfeeding is interesting in that the concept of the mammalian brain very well may describe how it was that "lone wolf" personalities might "bond" with others, then to discover that the allure of happiness may bond you to someone for a more durable connection than that of just being sexually attracted.
In the field of Evolutionary Psychology, the model called the "Triune Brain Model" has the mammalian brain as one of the three, interdependent areas of the mind. The other two are the Reptilian Brain and the Higher Brain.
