A temperament of personality, in which one is "right-brained" (creative) and nurturing, emotionally, or maternal in nature, regardless of gender. It is a major component of emotional attraction in phase two of courtship and of emotional and intellectual compatibility in courtship. There may be some overflow into Character Compatibility in intellectual attraction, although this may not bear a direct connection to Commonalities of Committment or Skills of Commitment within it.
This is one of the four kinds of temperament of personality described in the Social Personality System, and it is the opposite of a Warrior temperament, which would be the ideal match for it in friendship, romance, and any kind of partnership.
Lovers tend to feel most fulfilled when they can experience the senses, deep emotion, and cause inspiration that is touching to others, causing them to cry or laugh or feel deep emotion as well. They are the philosophers and poets of life, and prefer to tell stories to others, especially one on one. They have a sense of style and fashion, design, and are gifted at the arts, especially the fine arts, while not as much the performing arts.
In Shakespearean terms, they are the fools or jokers to the leaders of the land, and are the least likely to get in conflict or to participate in adversarial relations.
Their weakness is a lack of courage, or to pay attention to the fine details of their goals, and their strength is the ability to touch the heart of others, and to form deep and personal individual friendships built on support and caring.
This personality style, composed of right-brained intellectual ability and well-being as a dominant type of self esteem, makes them especially gifted at tasks that require creative, visionary thinking and loving and giving service to others.
In fact, while the personalities have a place in the Triune Brain map of the mind, in the mammalian and higher brain, there is a way they play out into the fully conscious mind of the higher brain in terms of one's character makeup.
For example, we learn in the Intellectual Attraction Phase of courtship how people can find Character Compatibility in terms of their best virtues. Those of the Lover personality style are especially adept at four of the sixteen, Cardinal Virtues.
For Lovers, that means:
MASTER VIRTUES OF LOVERS:
If you find that your opposite sex parent has one of these four virtues, it is likely also attractive to you in terms of seeing yourself possibly getting into a committed relationship with such a person, and that person, if they are a Lover, and you are a Warrior, this is likely to cause a durable romantic connection between you two.
